Honestly I have no idea what I’ve been doing with my time this week but here it is already Thursday!  We’ve been getting torrential rain every afternoon and evening for 8 days now and that has curbed my energy and enthusiasm.  The days are so humid I can’t bear to be outside for long.  I spent a couple of hours yesterday photographing and uploading to my etsy site. www.katyoparty.etsy.com   I’ve been working on about three projects at once this week.  A few cards, a key ring decoration so I’ll quit losing the key to my studio, and stringing a necklace.  I’ve also decided to join Jane Lafazio’s prayer flag challenge.  I hope everyone is having an artful summer!

Having a quandry this morning–want to hang out in my new art studio and play but am feeling like I should be cleaning my house.  I’ve been ignoring housework all week so I suppose I should get it done as soon as possible then I can do what I like!  Okay–talked myself into it.  Adios.

Got up and had coffee as usual but then joined a neighbor for MORE coffee a bit later.  I feel a bit like a deranged bee  :)  I’ve been taking photos of items to post on my etsy site and ran across this colorful piece that started out in the 100-day challenge and then became a lovely friend card.  I used alcohol inks, painted masking tape, flowers, ribbons, and sequins—because one wants a hint of sparkle!  At least I do…and on everything!

Am I the only one who makes things and then has a hard time letting go of them?  I seem to have this crazy possessive thing sometimes and worry that the item is going to get thrown away by the recipient and I think of all the hard work I put into it.  I feel as if I put a little sliver of my heart in each item and if the item gets thrown away…well you get the picture.

Spent the morning putting pavers around the outside of my studio so that rain drains properly.  Good thing because it is pouring rain right now!  Also bought some silky fabric (on sale at JoAnns) to hang for curtains in my two windows.  I didn’t want to do any sewing so I  bought enough to hang a double layer over the tension rods I put up.  Didn’t feel like doing any drilling or screwdriving either–haha!

After all that was done I settled down to work on some postcards I started several weeks ago but never finished.  I am a stickler for not wasting decent size pieces of paper when I make other projects so that is how I got into the postcards.  I was rocking the inks, spica pens, gel pens, copics, any pen I could get my hands on this afternoon!  Very into doodling today!

My “something new” I tried today is that I have had a set of Shiva irridescent paintstiks for close to a year and never tried them.  Don’t ask me why because the answer is kind of embarrassing….two parts…first it started out that I was intimidated by them.  I’ve never used oil paint and was chicken.  The second part is that eventually they got buried under other supplies.  When I moved into my new studio I uncovered them again.  Today they were staring at me on my desk and I decided to quit being a scaredy cat and open the package.  The colors look good enough to eat and as a child I used to eat crayons so I had to resist my urges–haha  Anyhow I started shaving off the thin layer of wax on different colors and then smearing the brilliant colors around and they are so yummy and rich!  I ended up making a sketchy flower and really enjoyed smearing paint with my fingers.  Can’t believe I wasted nearly a year being afraid of those gorgeous paintstiks.  I’ve heard the quote “Where there is fear there is no creativity” and it is surely ringing true for me today.

My art studio is a work in progress but I love this wall! 

So far my blog entries have been all over the map.  I originally intended this to be solely a creative blog but I have been wandering all over whenever the mood strikes me.  I intend to return to my initial plan and post about my creative endeavors and crazy experiments.  The fun and sparkly side of katyoparty!  Happy day!
