This is a picture of the canvas I started last year at the CREATE art retreat in Chicago. I took a class from a wonderful instructor named Cheryl Darrow from Ten Seconds Studio. The class was actually teaching metal embossing but she provided these canvasses with a niche in them to put our metal creations. I painted my canvas and then spent the rest of the class embossing metal. The barely started project sat in my studio until about a month ago when I decided I needed to actually finish the darn thing. This is the first mixed media canvas project I have done. I think monkeys are fun so I used some of the monkey related ephemera I have in my “treasure bag” of clippings. Mainly I used things I like on this project. Flowers, rhinestones, snakeskin origami paper, ribbon, painted chipboard, mists and paint and glaze, fleur de lis. I am looking forward to doing another mixed media canvas project as soon as I buy another canvas.
These days I am enjoying working on this and that and experimenting with techniques I’ve never tried. I have been working hard on not judging myself too harshly regarding my art escapades. A crazy designer on television named Christopher Lowell once said, “Where there is fear there is no creativity.” Works for me. Thanks for looking.
Adios.
